Okay, so it's blatantly 'inspired' by the successes of Live at the Apollo and MM's Comedy Roadshow, but if it's true I reckon they could be on to a winner....

Salford-born comedian Jason Manford, formerly a DJ for XFM Manchester, has reportedly been signed up as the host of a new Friday night show on ITV1.

Manford, well known for his appearances on Channel 4's 8 out of 10 cats, will apparently be the front man for Comedy Rocks.
The show, according to The Sun newspaper, will showcase 'the best stand-up talent in the UK', as well as featuring live sets from established and up and coming bands.

As a twist on established entertainment formats, Comedy Rocks will also offer the chance for an audience member to take a turn under the spotlight and perform a stand-up routine.

Fantastic news :)

Hopefully Jason will get some say in who appears on the show.

The audience member thing sounds interesting. Will it be a 'plant'? Could it be a total car crash?

Definitely looking forward to this one!

I can't imagine it'll be some random bod who sticks their hand up. Am sure it'll be more of a pre-arranged open spot type of thing.

The rest of the format sounds very familiar. Jason as the new Ben Elton? Who'd-a-thunk it?

Apparently it'll go out on 26th March as a pilot.

Oh & there won't be any audience members doing a set! Don't know where they got that from! I'll be having a chat with the audience probably.

The line-up for ITV1’s Comedy Rocks with Jason Manford has been announced – and it includes Joe Pasquale.

The high-pitched comic will be joined by John Bishop, Jo Brand and ventriloquist Paul Zerdin on the prime-time show.

The programme will also include live music performances by Pixie Lott and Scouting for Girls.

A pilot is being recorded in London on March 25, to go out the following night, to allow for topical material.

Manford sad: ‘I'm really looking forward to being part of this variety event on ITV - music and comedy and a look back over the week, perfect for a Friday night, hopefully there’ll be something for everyone.’

Elaine Bedell, ITV’s director of entertainment and comedy added: ‘Jason is the perfect host for a show that celebrates that kind of entertainment variety.’

I guess it has kinda changed from the original 'concept' that was put out there but it looks like it could be worth a watch, even if it's just to ogle Pixie Lott.
