Gatehouse comedy
Weekly on Tuesdays
Gatehouse in Tyldesley (M29 8WE)
Pester me until I respond
ghcomedy at gmail dot com or you can phone me if I know you. I probably won't answer due to work/online gaming/laziness, but I'm more likely to respond to a voicemail if we've met.

I have open spots and headliners. It's a low-budget free entry gig, with a regular crowd of mixed ages, from the very young, to those born at a more comfortable distance from the apocalypse.

Public transport is dire so you'll need to drive or get a lift.

Including this one (No high ground for me :( )

We'll edit these out once the rush dies down.

The second one. Put stuff in that you're involved in - that way people don't have to pester you if the details are wrong or need correcting. If anyone else wants their gig promoting, they can do it themselves :P

While I can see the point behind this, it does mean that some of the more important places for new comics to go looking for gigs will not be represented. For instance, for anyone deciding to go up to Scotland, Red Raw at The Stand is absolutely the gig to do. However, I seriously doubt that either Eva or Tommy are going to be checking this thread any time soon and decide to add their details.

At present, we're running two gigs.

Laughing Penguin @ North Terrace, Newcastle

Running as of September for acts who have 10-15 mins.
Will be every other Tuesday from September 28th (due to it being VERY close to the Uni it'll be a term time only gig - unless we can convince civilians that its a good idea).
We've ran trial nights there through May and it seems like it should be a nice little gig for new material and new acts.

Carshares encouraged.

Booked by Hayley info@thelaughingpenguin.co.uk and will start to schedule these in the coming weeks / months.

Laughing Penguin @ The Bridge Hotel, Newcastle

3rd Wednesday of the month.

Our flagship gig. Paid opener, paid headliner and two spots in the middle.
Middle spots have performed at our other gigs, or are good (i.e. we've seen before or get good recommendations from).
MC Tony Jameson

Thats about it really.

A Laugh In Stockport

Every 1st Thursday of the month at The Clubhouse, above The Bull's Head, 13 Market Place, Stockport SK1 1EW
10 minute walk from Stockport train station & bus station; close to M60 motorway.

Google maps link

Hosted by 80s Luke & Rich Wall, A Laugh In Stockport takes place in the function room at The Bull's Head, known as The Clubhouse. It's a great room with stage, lighting and full PA; comfortably holds up to 80 people with a mix of seating and standing.

Paid opener, paid headliner and a mix of paid and unpaid spots in the middle.

Beat The Bully

Every 3rd Thursday of the month, now at a NEW VENUE - The Crown, 14 Higher Hillgate, Stockport SK1 3ER - the gig takes place in the back room.

Google Maps link

Beat The Bully is a gong-show style competition for newer acts. Acts try to survive for 5 minutes. Winner decided by clap-off. 1st prize is £30 plus a booking at the main ALIS night; 2nd prize is £20.

Also, two 10-minute warm-up spots available for more established acts - new material try-outs welcome.

If interested, email alaughinstockport at googlemail dot com for both gigs; please put which gig & spot you're interested in in the message subject.

Established acts test new material

Fuel Cafe Bar (upstairs), Wilmslow Road, Withington, M20 3BW

Takes place on the 3rd Sunday of the month

A gig for established acts to try out their latest material

If you get regular paid work doing stand-up or if you're an open spot I've seen and I told you I thought you were very impressive then I'll book you. It's a free entry gig so no-one gets paid. I book in blocks of four months (currently booking September-December 2010, plus there's still a few spots available for August). I also book an MC spot each month

To apply, email me at stickongarfield@gmail.com

The Last Thursday Of Every Month

A lovely gig that always sells out in front of an audience that will support anyone and absolutely fall at the feet of anyone they like. The format features an established headliner, an emerging opening act and two open spots. I don't book acts unseen, partially because I'm quite protective of the night and partially because I only have 24 open spots a year to offer and this is a fair way to control numbers. I tend to book in blocks quite far ahead. In September I book the first six months of the year and I book the second half of the year in the spring.

There's always a lift from Manchester if it's needed as I drive over to MC myself. I tend to have an idea of who I want to book to close and support but, if I've seen you do well, it doesn't hurt to drop me a line and remind me. Please don't take offense if I don't reply beyond a thank you for your interest as I'll probably put your name on my list of potential acts until I'm booking again. As there's not a lot of slots not everybody will get one either. Like Rob I will give preference to acts that are serious about getting better and progressing over those that just fancy doing it for a laugh.

Comedy @ The Zuu Bar
The Zuu Bar, Bradford, West Yorkshire

The second Sunday of every month.

A new night starting from September on the second Sunday of the month. Currently it's a work in progress and the first few months are completely booked. It will offer an open spot on the bill with one semi-pro and two pro acts. Please don't enquire about gigs here yet, we'll see if it lasts past the trial period.

The No Strings Comedy Club

Lanches Friday August 13th at the Live Lounge, New Brighton, Wirral, CH45 2JT

Followed by the Liverpool launch on Wednesday August 18th at Cafe Sports Express, Liverpool One

We are trying to make this night a little more "act friendly" in that you:
(a) get 2 minutes where you are "gong proof" to avoid any brutal audiences who have no sympathy for slow-starters and acts trying out new stuff.
(b) after a further 3 minutes, you become a "Real Boy" and that means you have beaten the Honest Johns. You then have up to a minute to finish your act in your own time, as opposed to going for a big finish but being interrupted pre-punchline!

For more info, I have set up a profile on Facebook, simply as Nostrings Comedyclub. There is also a Fan Page which you can join. You won't be surprised to see that the profile picture for both is the Wooden Boy himself!

Give us a look anyway, and any would-be acts please get in touch!

As of September, Katie Mulgrew will be running this gig. She will be the resident compere so it's just the new material spots now. Her email is katiemulg@googlemail.com She's going to Edinburgh so don't be surprised if you don't get a reply for a few weeks

Ha Ha Comedy Club

- Buckshaw Village, Chorley, Lancs.
- Monthly Night on Saturdays - Kicking off on November 13th 2010
- New Club in a brand new venue near Chorley. 100+ venue, with option to expand to 200 if needed ( )
- I'm avoiding Open Slots whilst we get established, so Paid 20's, MC's and Headliners needed as I'm looking to book December - March over the next few weeks.

Beyond A Joke, Mother Mac's, Back Piccadilly, Manchester M1 7HP. Due to webmail being a cünt and keep deleting mails and the ammount I get about BAJ, can people mail booking requests to beyond_a_joke@hotmail.co.uk. That way I've got them all in one place and it's a lot easier to keep check on numbers. I do book acts for paid work from seeing them at at BAJ, plus it's a good place to try out new stuff and actually turning into a fun night with real punters. Every second Friday.

Otherwise there is Friday Fun 'n Frolics at the Aspinall Arms, Mitton, (where the fück is Mitton? middle of nowhere, somewhere North of Blackburn, there are no houses, the punters live in trees and bushes). Middle bits are my version of opens, however you do get some money and fed so I want a decent standard, ie very good trustworthy references or I've seen you somewhere. Third Friday of the month, The Aspinall Arms, Mitton Road, Mitton, BB7 9PQ.

First Friday Fun at the ACE Centre Nelson, next door to Burnley where we locals hold our sacred race riots every so often. All acts paid, and I want a bloody good standard, I'll have seen you or you've got VERY good references. The ACE Centre, Cross Street, Nelson Lancacashire, BB9 7NN.

Starting Wednesday 22nd of September, Coal Hole Comedy, Barnoldswick. Similar to the Aspinall but charged entery, good quality acts, everyone gets paid, Rainhill Cellar Bar, Rainhill Road, Barnoldswick, BB18 5AF.

Ring / text me if you have my number, otherwise mail me, mike@conceptcomedy.co.uk or for BAJ beyond_a_joke@hotmail.co.uk
